Indian Army Court Martial Finds Soldier Not Guilty of Allegations by Officer’s Daughter
An Indian Army court martial has found a soldier from the Corps of Signals not guilty of allegations made by an officer’s daughter. The case began in August 2019, and the court announced its findings on July 11.
The accused soldier was attached to the officer, who was staying in a civil area in Delhi. The court, presided over by a colonel-rank officer, concluded that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. The verdict is subject to confirmation by senior Army authorities.
The woman officially levelled the allegations three months after the alleged incident, as she wanted to focus on her studies for entrance exams. Advocate Anand Kumar, the soldier’s counsel, expressed satisfaction with the justice delivered, stating that the verdict reaffirms faith in the Indian Army’s justice system and equality before the law.
