Indian Army and Assam Rifles Recover Weapons in Manipur
In the first week of September 2024, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and other security forces conducted successful joint operations across various districts of Manipur. These operations led to the recovery of a large number of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores.
Operations in Churachandpur District
Acting on specific intelligence, the forces launched a search operation in areas like Liklai, Mashemjang, P Geljang, Thoroilok, Gelmon, Molphai Tampak, Leisanbung, and Maulnghat. They recovered two 9 mm pistols with magazines, one single barrel 12mm bore gun, 17 locally improvised long-range mortars, one AK Series rifle, one carbine machine gun, one sniper, one INSAS rifle, three single barrel rifles, three pistols, six improvised mortars, and other warlike stores. A bunker was also destroyed at Molphai Tampak on September 7, 2024.
Operations in Kangpokpi and Imphal East Districts
On September 5, 2024, a joint team of the Indian Army and Manipur Police busted an arms cache in the fringe areas of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts, recovering 11 weapons, 6 pompis, ammunition, and warlike stores.
Operations in Loiching Ridge Area
On September 7, 2024, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a search operation in the Loiching Ridge area of Kangpokpi district. They recovered one country-made drone, one 7.62mm sniper rifle, one .22 rifle, one single barrel rifle, one 9mm pistol, 12 single barrel rifles, two 5.56 mm assault rifles, one self-loading rifle, one assault rifle, one improvised long-range mortar, one improvised short-range mortar with stand, grenades, ammunition, and other warlike stores.
Operations in Bishnupur District
In Bishnupur district, an intelligence-based joint operation led by the Indian Army in areas of Bunglon, Maulsang, and Vaikul Lok Nala resulted in the recovery of one modified AK-47 rifle, three large country-made mortars (pompi), two medium country-made mortars, one small country-made mortar, and five grenades along with explosives.
Operations in Thoubal District
In Thoubal district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police received intelligence inputs indicating the presence of arms and ammunition in the general area of Tentha. The joint operation resulted in the recovery of four single-barrel shotguns, ammunition, and other warlike stores.
All recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police, and FIRs have been lodged for all operations. These proactive measures by Assam Rifles and other security forces are crucial steps in restoring peace and stability in the region.
