Indian and Mongolian Troops Practice Yoga Together in Meghalaya

Umroi (Meghalaya) [India], July 5: Indian and Mongolian troops performed Yoga against the beautiful backdrop of Meghalaya. They are participating in Exercise Nomadic Elephant at the State-of-the-Art Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya.

About Exercise Nomadic Elephant

The 16th edition of the India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise Nomadic Elephant started on July 3 and will continue until July 16. This annual training event is held alternately in India and Mongolia. The last edition took place in Mongolia in July 2023.

Participants

An Indian contingent of 45 personnel, including a battalion of Sikkim scouts and other arms and services, is participating. The Mongolian contingent includes personnel from the 150 Quick Reaction Force Battalion of the Mongolian Army.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dambajavyn Ganbold, Ambassador of Mongolia to India, and Major General Prasanna Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area of the Indian Army.

Objectives and Activities

The exercise aims to enhance joint military capabilities for counter-insurgency operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrains under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. Activities include:

  • Response to terrorist actions
  • Establishment of a joint command post
  • Setting up an intelligence and surveillance center
  • Securing helipads or landing sites
  • Small team insertion and extraction
  • Special heliborne operations
  • Cordon and search operations
  • Use of drones and counter-drone systems

Closing Ceremony

Major General Gyanbyamba Sunrev, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mongolia, and Lieutenant General Zubin A Minwalla, General Officer Commanding 33 Corps of the Indian Army, will attend the closing ceremony on July 16.

Benefits

Exercise Nomadic Elephant will help both sides share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations. It will also foster interoperability, camaraderie, and enhance defense cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations between India and Mongolia.
