Indian Air Force Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Flooded Bihar

An advanced light helicopter of the Indian Air Force had to make an emergency landing in the Sitamarhi sector of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, while conducting relief operations. The helicopter, which had three personnel on board, including two pilots, landed in floodwaters. Fortunately, all on board are safe.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit, explained that the emergency landing was due to engine failure. He praised Squadron Leader Praveen, the pilot, for his exceptional courage in landing the aircraft in water. However, Squadron Leader Praveen suffered a back injury and is currently receiving treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College in Muzaffarpur.

Several parts of Bihar are experiencing severe flooding due to heavy water discharge from the Kosi Barrage in Birpur, following relentless rainfall in Nepal’s catchment areas. The floods have affected northern Bihar and Nepal, with some rivers at or above danger levels.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai stated that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is providing all possible help to Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha assured that the state government is working closely with the central government to mitigate the flooding situation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has released Rs 5,858.60 crore to 14 flood-affected states, including Bihar, from the State Disaster Response Fund and the National Disaster Response Fund.
