IndiaAI and Meta Launch Generative AI Center ‘Shrijan’ at IIT Jodhpur
IndiaAI and Meta have announced the establishment of the Center for Generative AI, named ‘Shrijan’, at IIT Jodhpur. This initiative, in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), aims to advance open-source AI in India. The center will focus on empowering young AI innovators and entrepreneurs by exploring Large Language Models (LLMs) and conducting hackathons to discover indigenous use cases.
YuvAI Initiative for Skilling and Capacity Building
The ‘YuvAI Initiative’ will train 100,000 young developers and students in AI skills over the next three years. This program will utilize open-source LLMs to address real-world challenges in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture. It includes the creation of a Gen AI Resource Hub and Master Training Activation Workshops.
Collaborative Efforts and Goals
S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, highlighted the importance of this partnership in creating a robust ecosystem for AI research and skill development. Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, emphasized the role of open-source innovation in bridging the talent gap and securing India’s position as a global AI leader.
Meta has committed Rs 750 lakhs over three years to support this initiative. The center will collaborate with various academic and industry stakeholders to advance GenAI research and technology. It aims to nurture 1 lakh youth developers and entrepreneurs in AI skills, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a 5 trillion economy.
