Rohit Sharma Leads Team India to Victory

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, congratulated Rohit Sharma-led Team India for winning the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup after 17 years. The Men in Blue triumphed over South Africa by seven runs in Barbados.

Minister’s Statement

Raksha Khadse praised the team, saying, “I congratulate and extend my wishes to all the players of Team India. They have taken forward the name of our country. Team India has won this title after 17 years.”

Match Highlights

India won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early setback at 34/3, a strong partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) helped India reach 176/7 in 20 overs. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were the top bowlers, taking two wickets each.

In response, South Africa was reduced to 12/2 but fought back with contributions from Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31). Heinrich Klaasen’s 52 runs threatened India’s lead, but excellent bowling by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya restricted South Africa to 169/8.

Player of the Match

Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance. This victory marks India’s first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
