India Wins T20 World Cup 2024: Kuldeep Yadav and Team Meet PM Modi
India’s left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav shared his excitement after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi following their win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. The Men in Blue returned as undefeated champions, overcoming various challenges to secure the trophy.
“We are very happy. We waited for this for a long time. It feels great to see our people here. It is a great pleasure to bring the World Cup. This is more for our India than for us… It was very nice to meet him (Prime Minister Narendra Modi),” Kuldeep said.
On Thursday morning, the team arrived in Delhi to a warm welcome from fans. After meeting PM Modi, they traveled to Mumbai for an open bus victory parade from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium. Thousands of fans gathered to celebrate with the team.
At Wankhede, the players were awarded Rs 125 crore by the BCCI. They also discussed their win and key performances, danced, and took a victory lap to ‘Vande Mataram’.
The flight, organized by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, departed from hurricane-struck Barbados and arrived in Delhi on Thursday morning. India ended a 13-year ICC World Cup trophy drought by defeating South Africa by seven runs. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs, while Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah excelled in bowling. Bumrah, with 15 wickets and an economy rate of 4.17, was named ‘Player of the Tournament’.
