India Wins Medals in Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkiye
The Indian mixed recurve archery team, made up of Bhajan Kaur and Dhiraj Bommadevara, won a bronze medal at the Archery World Cup stage three in Antalya, Turkiye. They defeated Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia and Matias Grande by 5-3.
Earlier, the Indian women’s compound team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami, won a gold medal. They beat Estonia’s Lisell Jaatma, Meeri-Marita Paas, and Maris Tetsmann by 232-229. This victory makes them the top-ranked women’s compound archery team in the world.
Indian archer Priyansh won a silver medal in the men’s individual compound event, narrowly losing to Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands by 149-148.
However, the Indian men’s recurve archery team, including Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Pravin Jadhav, did not secure a spot for the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing to Mexico in the quarter-finals. The Indian women’s recurve team, with Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, also lost to Ukraine in the Round of 16.
The World Cup stage three in Antalya is the last event for recurve archers before the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying period ends. The final World Cup stage of 2024 will be held in Mexico in October.
