India U-17 Football Team Prepares for SAFF Championship in Bhutan

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the names of 31 probables for the U-17 national camp to be held in Srinagar from July 8. This camp is in preparation for the SAFF U17 Men’s Championship 2024, which will take place in Bhutan from September 18 to 28.

India is grouped with Maldives and Bangladesh in Group A, while Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are in Group B. After the SAFF campaign, the squad will continue training in Srinagar for the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers, scheduled for October 2024 in Thailand.

Several players among the probables were part of the Indian squad that won the SAFF Men’s U16 Championship in Bhutan last September. Head coach Ishfaq Ahmed expressed his excitement about coaching this talented group of youngsters. He mentioned that most players were part of the U17 youth league, while others were scouted.

Ahmed also noted the benefits of holding the camp in Srinagar, as it will help the players get accustomed to high-altitude conditions similar to those in Bhutan.
