India to Open New Consulates in Boston and Los Angeles
Washington, DC [US], September 23: US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has welcomed India’s decision to open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles. He called it an “important step forward.”
Garcetti shared his excitement on X, saying, “Excited to see the U.S. & India achieving new horizons together. This weekend, India announced its intent to open two new Indian Consulates in the U.S. in Boston and Los Angeles, a vision I’ve encouraged since serving as LA Mayor. Now, as U.S. Ambassador to India, it’s wonderful to see this important step forward.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision during an event at the Nassau Coliseum in New York, addressing the Indian diaspora. He emphasized the growing partnership between India and the US, aimed at global good. “The partnership between America and India is growing stronger. Our partnership is aimed at global good, and we are increasing cooperation in every sector. We have taken your convenience into consideration,” PM Modi said.
Modi also mentioned the opening of a new Indian consulate in Seattle last year and the plan to open two additional consulates in Boston and Los Angeles. He praised the strength of India-US ties and the contributions of the Indian diaspora.
During his last visit to the US in June 2023, PM Modi and US President Joe Biden announced the opening of new consulates in each other’s countries. The US plans to open consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, while India will operationalize its consulate in Seattle and open two new consulates in the US.
PM Modi, currently visiting the US, attended the Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, and held a bilateral meeting with President Biden. Modi thanked Biden for hosting him in Greenville, Delaware, and described their talks as extremely fruitful, discussing regional and global issues.
