The announcement was made at a curtain raiser event in New Delhi, attended by Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan.

Minister’s Address

Ashwani Vaishnaw highlighted the structural changes and technological advancements in the media and entertainment sector. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the industry through public policy, creating employment, and enhancing the talent pipeline.

He stated, “The role of public policy today, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to enable the harnessing of the best out of this structural change.”

The minister explained that the focus is on creating an ecosystem that encourages high-quality content, protects intellectual property rights, and positions India as a preferred location for content creation. He also mentioned that WAVES and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will complement each other, making Goa a hub for creativity and talent.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant noted that while IFFI has been a symbol of cinematic excellence, WAVES will add a new dimension by focusing on the emerging media and entertainment sector. He invited the industry to Goa for innovation and collaboration.
