India Successfully Tests VSHORADS Missiles in Rajasthan’s Pokhran

India has achieved a significant milestone by successfully test-firing the indigenously developed VSHORADS missiles at the Pokhran firing ranges in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted three tests of this Very Short Range Air Defence System as part of development trials.

Technological Advancement

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army, and the industry involved in these successful trials. He emphasized that this new missile, equipped with modern technologies, will enhance the Armed Forces’ capabilities against aerial threats. The VSHORADS is a 4th Generation, technically advanced miniaturized weapon system.

Modernization Efforts

The missiles have been under development for several years and are expected to meet the critical needs of the forces to counter enemy aircraft, drones, and other aerial targets at short ranges. Currently, the forces rely on Russian Igla missiles but have recognized the need to modernize their inventory.

International Cooperation

In a related event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2024 in New Delhi, advocating for peaceful dispute resolution and cooperation among nations in the Indo-Pacific. He highlighted India’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of international maritime routes and emphasized the importance of regional partnerships.

India’s Vision for the Indo-Pacific

Singh reiterated India’s vision for the Indo-Pacific, based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region). He stressed that India’s engagement with its partners is driven by the belief that true progress is achieved through collective action and synergy.
