India Shines at Paris 2024 Paralympics
Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar Win Medals in Javelin Throw
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, congratulated Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar for their outstanding performances in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Ajeet Singh secured a silver medal with a personal best throw of 65.62m, while Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze with a season-best throw of 64.96m. Cuba’s Guillermo took the gold with a throw of 66.14m.
Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu Excel in High Jump
The President also praised Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu for their achievements in the men’s high jump event. Sharad Kumar won a silver medal with a leap of 1.88m, and Mariyappan Thangavelu secured bronze with a jump of 1.85m. America’s Ezra Frech set a new Paralympic Record with a jump of 1.94m to win the gold.
India’s Record-Breaking Performance
India’s para-athletes have made history in Paris by surpassing their highest medal tally from the Tokyo Paralympics. The Indian contingent has won 20 medals so far, including three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals. This year, India sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes competing in 12 sports.
