India’s campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics ended with six medals, just one short of the record total from Tokyo 2020. This marks India’s third-best performance at the Summer Games after Tokyo 2020 and London 2012. Indian athletes participated in 16 sports, with athletics having the largest representation of 29 members and shooting fielding its largest-ever contingent of 21 shooters.

Neeraj Chopra’s Silver in Javelin

Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in javelin with a throw of 89.45m, adding to his Tokyo 2020 gold. He became the fifth two-time Olympic medallist from India.

Manu Bhaker’s Historic Achievements

Manu Bhaker made history by winning a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal. She also, along with Sarabjot Singh, won India’s first shooting team medal at the Olympics. Manu Bhaker became the first athlete from independent India to win two medals in one edition of the Olympics.

Other Notable Achievements

Swapnil Kusale won a bronze in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions, marking India’s best medal tally in one sport at the Olympics. The Indian men’s hockey team won a bronze, securing back-to-back Olympic medals in hockey for the first time in 52 years. Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat achieved India’s best result in archery by finishing fourth in the mixed team event. Lakshya Sen became the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semi-finals in badminton, and Manika Batra became the first Indian table tennis player to make it to the pre-quarterfinals, with Sreeja Akula following suit.
