India Shares Digital Public Infrastructure with 10 Countries
Minister Jitin Prasada Announces Agreements
India has signed agreements with 10 countries to share its digital public infrastructure, according to Minister of State for Electronic and Information Technology, Jitin Prasada. These countries are Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Papua New Guinea, Trinidad and Tobago, Tanzania, Kenya, Cuba, and Colombia.
Key Digital Platforms
Aadhaar: Aadhaar is the world’s largest digital identity program, providing unique digital identities based on biometric and demographic data. As of now, 138.04 crore Aadhaar numbers have been generated.
Unified Payment Interface (UPI): UPI is India’s leading digital payment platform. In June 2024 alone, over 1,388 crore financial transactions were made through UPI, contributing to financial inclusion at the grassroots level.
DigiLocker: DigiLocker is a platform for the digital issuance and verification of documents and certificates. It has facilitated more than 30 crore users and made available 675 crore issued documents.
Global Initiatives
The Indian government has launched initiatives like India Stack Global and the Global DPI Repository to share the success of its digital public infrastructures with the global community. Under India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, the Global DPI Repository portal was developed and rolled out.
