India Sends Officer to Set Up Embassy in Libya

India has sent an officer to Libya to establish the Indian Embassy in Tripoli, which will soon be fully operational, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced this during a weekly press briefing.

Embassy in Tripoli

Jaiswal stated, “First officer has been sent to Tripoli, Libya…he has to set up the embassy. In some sense, it is functional now, but not fully functional. Soon you’ll have all the activities beginning in Libya. Thereafter, we will try to enhance and expand our cooperation.”

Update on Naval Officer in Qatar

MEA also provided an update on the eighth Indian naval officer who remains in Qatar. Jaiswal explained, “He has certain requirements. Therefore, for that reason, he is in that country. He is staying there, and as and when, he is able to meet those requirements, he will travel back home.” Seven out of the eight Indian naval veterans imprisoned in Qatar have already returned to India.

Nikhil Gupta Case

Regarding Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national accused in a foiled assassination plot in the US, Jaiswal confirmed that India has not received any request for granting consular access to him. Gupta was extradited to the US to face legal proceedings and has pleaded not guilty. New Delhi has dissociated itself from the plot against pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, stating it is against the Indian government’s policy.
