India Sends 39 Young Badminton Players to Compete in China

India Sends 39 Young Badminton Players to Compete in China

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) is sending a team of 39 players to the Badminton Asia (U-15/U-17) junior championships in Chengdu, China, from August 20 to 25. The team aims to win multiple medals and prepare for the 2025 World Junior Championship in India.

In the last edition of the championships, India won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Bornil Changmai won the gold in the U15 boy’s singles category.

The Indian team left for Chengdu after an extensive training camp at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati. BAI secretary Sanjay Mishra expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “I am confident that we can win sizable medals. The players and the coaches have put in a lot of work in the camp and our players are now ready to make a mark in the competition.”

The squad was selected after trials in Bengaluru and includes top players like Gnana Dattu and Tanvi Reddy Andluri in the U17 category, and Shyam Bindiganavile and Tanvi Patri in the U15 category. Shaina Manimuthu will compete in both the girls’ U17 singles and doubles events.
