India Sends 33 Tons of Medical Aid to Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

India Sends Medical Aid to Lebanon

On October 18, India dispatched the first batch of 11 tons of medical supplies to Lebanon, part of a larger 33-ton humanitarian effort. This aid comes as tensions and conflict escalate in southern Lebanon. The supplies include cardiovascular medications, NSAIDs, anti-inflammatory agents, antibiotics, and anesthetics.

Commitment to Peacekeepers’ Safety

India has emphasized the safety of United Nations peacekeepers, particularly those along the Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted India’s concern for peacekeepers’ safety following attacks on UNIFIL premises. Although no Indian troops are stationed there, India is closely monitoring the situation.

International Concerns

The situation has garnered international attention, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging the withdrawal of peacekeeping forces due to Hezbollah’s influence. UNIFIL, operational since 1978, recently renewed its mandate, underscoring the need to protect peacekeepers amid ongoing violence.
