India Promotes Nano Fertilizers with New Plants and Drone Scheme

The Indian government has set up six nano urea plants and four nano DAP plants to promote the use of nano fertilizers among farmers. Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, shared this information in Rajya Sabha.

The government is promoting nano urea through various activities such as awareness camps, webinars, nukkad nataks, field demonstrations, Kisan Sammelans, and films in regional languages. Nano urea is available at Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSKs) and is included in the monthly supply plan by the Department of Fertilizers.

To boost nano urea production, the Department of Fertilizers has encouraged National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) and Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (RCF) to set up nano urea plants. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) recently organized a national campaign on efficient and balanced fertilizer use, including nano fertilizers.

The government has also launched the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ Scheme to provide drones to 15,000 women Self Help Groups (SHGs). Under this scheme, 1094 drones have been made available to Namo Drone Didis for better application of nano fertilizers.

Additionally, the Department of Fertilizers, in collaboration with fertilizer companies, has initiated a Maha Abhiyan for adopting Nano DAP in all 15 agro-climatic zones of the country through consultations and field-level demonstrations. A campaign for field-level demonstrations and awareness programs of Nano Urea plus has also been launched in 100 districts.
