India Open to Licensing Elon Musk’s Starlink for Satellite Internet
India is considering granting a license to Starlink, a satellite internet company owned by Elon Musk. Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, stated that India is open to providing the necessary license, provided Starlink addresses all security concerns. Scindia emphasized the importance of complying with India’s requirements, saying, “We are open to give licence to anyone including Starlink. They have to comply with all our concerns.”
Starlink has already applied for a license in India. The process involves meeting specific criteria, and once these are fulfilled, the license will be granted. Scindia expressed optimism, stating, “If they do that, we will be more than happy.”
Starlink, known for its global satellite internet service, aims to provide high-speed, low-latency internet, especially in remote areas where traditional telecom services are expensive. The company uses a low Earth orbit satellite constellation to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, and video calls.
