India, New Zealand, and Australia Shine in Women’s T20 World Cup Warm-Ups
On the second day of warm-up matches for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, India, New Zealand, and Australia secured comfortable victories against their respective opponents.
India vs West Indies
India started their warm-up campaign with a 20-run win over the West Indies. Despite losing their top three batters early, Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia steadied the innings with a 50-run partnership. Rodrigues scored a well-crafted 52 off 40 balls. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar added crucial runs to help India reach 140. In response, the West Indies struggled, losing early wickets. Shemaine Campbelle and Chinelle Henry tried to stabilize the innings, but India took three quick wickets to regain control. Henry remained unbeaten on 59, but the West Indies fell short, finishing at 121/8. Pooja Vastrakar was the top wicket-taker with 3/20.
New Zealand vs South Africa
New Zealand, led by Amelia Kerr’s all-round performance, defeated South Africa. Kerr and Leigh Kasperek took three wickets each, restricting South Africa to 92. Laura Wolvaardt was the top scorer for South Africa with 33. In reply, New Zealand chased down the target with ease, thanks to Kerr’s 37 and Sophie Devine’s unbeaten 35, winning by eight wickets.
Australia vs England
Australia triumphed over England with Beth Mooney’s half-century and Tahlia McGrath’s all-round show. Mooney scored 50 off 30 balls, and McGrath added 31 to help Australia post 162/6. England started well but lost momentum, with Alice Capsey and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s partnership being the only highlight. McGrath took three wickets, and England fell 34 runs short, finishing at 128/9.
