India Launches New Program to Empower Girls and Women in 27 Districts

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) have started a pilot project to help adolescent girls and women in 27 districts across nine states. This project is the first step in a larger plan to help women join the workforce.

Training and Support

The training will be part of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and will focus on high-demand job roles, digital skills, and soft skills. About 4000 girls and women will benefit from this program. They will also receive support like career guidance, job placement help, and financial literacy training.

Goals and Vision

Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, said, “This program is a crucial step in our mission to empower girls and women across the nation.” Anil Malik, Secretary of MWCD, added, “Our goal is to raise female workforce participation from 37% to 60%.”

Additional Benefits

The program will also help women connect to e-commerce platforms and provide training on preventing sexual harassment. Participants will get Rs 1,000 per month for transport via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
