India Invited to SCO Meeting in Pakistan This October

India has received an invitation from Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting in October. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the invitation during a weekly media briefing but did not provide further updates.

Pakistan, which holds the rotating chairmanship of the CHG, is scheduled to host the SCO meeting in Islamabad on October 15-16. Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stated that invitations have been extended to all heads of government of the SCO member states, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some confirmations have already been received.

The SCO is a permanent intergovernmental international organization established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It now includes nine member states: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The SCO also has three observer states: Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Belarus, and 14 dialogue partners, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Sri Lanka.
