India Hosts Voice of Global South Summit
China Not Invited, 123 Countries Participate
New Delhi, India – India hosted the third Voice of Global South Summit virtually, with 123 countries taking part. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that China was not invited to the summit. The event focused on important issues like climate change, challenges of new technologies, and the need for reforms in the United Nations.
During a press conference, Jaishankar explained that the summit aimed to find common positions and create a sense of unity among the participating countries. He mentioned that the summit was more about exchanging ideas and less about presenting specific deliverables.
The Global South Summit initiative is an extension of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’ and is based on India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). The initiative aims to bring together countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on various issues.
India hosted the first Voice of Global South Summit on January 12-13, 2023, and the second on November 17, both in a virtual format.
