India Highlights Swachh Bharat and Jal Jeevan Mission at G20 Meeting in Brazil

At the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, India showcased its key programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission, and AMRUT. Led by Secretary Dammu Ravi, India emphasized its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals related to water and sanitation.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2014, has significantly improved sanitation infrastructure and reduced open defecation. The Jal Jeevan Mission, started in 2019, aims to provide piped water to every household by 2024. The AMRUT initiative focuses on enhancing urban infrastructure, including water supply and sewage management.

Beyond national efforts, India also supports other developing countries in the Global South. The meeting concluded with the G20 Ministerial Call to Action, focusing on enhancing global WASH services.

Brazil holds the G20 presidency from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024. The G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for November 18-19 in Rio de Janeiro, with leaders from 19 member countries, the African Union, and the European Union attending.
