India Helps Palestinian Refugees with $2.5 Million Donation to UNRWA

The Palestinian Embassy expressed gratitude to India for releasing the first $2.5 million of its $5 million annual contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for 2024-2025. This financial support is crucial for aiding Palestinian refugees, particularly in Gaza, where 2.2 million people reside, most of whom are refugees.

The embassy highlighted India’s pledge of support during a UNRWA conference in New York, which includes providing medicines upon request. This assistance is seen as vital in supporting UNRWA’s role amid challenges from Israeli actions.

UNRWA, established in 1949, provides services to over 6 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. The Palestinian Embassy hopes India’s support will help preserve UNRWA’s status and role, which is essential for the rights and hopes of Palestinian refugees.
