India Celebrates Paris Paralympics 2024: Nitesh Kumar Wins Gold, BAI Rewards Medallists

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that BAI will honor the five Indian medallists from the Paris Paralympics 2024 with a combined reward of Rs 50 lakh. This is India’s best performance in badminton at the Paralympic Games, with one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.

Medal Winners

Nitesh Kumar clinched the gold in the Men’s Singles SL3 category. Suhas Yathiraj won silver in the Men’s Singles SL4 category, repeating his success from Tokyo. Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadass, and Nithya Sre Sivan made history by becoming the first Indian women to win medals in badminton at the Paralympics. Thulasimathi won silver in Women’s Singles SU5, Manisha won bronze, and Nithya secured bronze in the SH6 category.

Rewards

The gold medal winner, Nitesh Kumar, will receive Rs 15 lakh. Silver medallists, Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi Murugesan, will receive Rs 10 lakh each. Bronze medallists, Manisha Ramadass and Nithya Sre Sivan, will receive Rs 7.5 lakh each.

BAI’s Commitment

BAI secretary general Sanjay Mishra praised the consistent performance of Indian para-badminton players on the world stage. He stated that the cash rewards are a way to recognize their efforts. BAI is committed to developing and promoting para-badminton across India and will undertake many more initiatives to help these players achieve greater success.

Considering the players’ tight tournament schedules, BAI will also organize a virtual interaction session to congratulate them and understand their requirements for continued development.
