India Celebrates 78th Independence Day with PM Modi at Red Fort and Olympic Heroes
New Delhi, August 15: India celebrates its 78th Independence Day today with grand preparations at the Red Fort in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 11th consecutive speech from the historic monument.
Olympic Heroes Join the Celebrations
The Indian Olympic contingent, which recently returned from the Paris Olympics 2024 with six medals, will also attend the celebrations. India finished 71st in the medal tally with one silver and five bronze medals. Notable athletes include Manu Bhaker, who won two bronze medals in shooting, and Neeraj Chopra, who claimed a silver in javelin throw.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign
Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has inspired citizens to display the national flag at their homes. In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, PM Modi urged everyone to participate in this patriotic initiative. Various events, including a Tiranga Bike Rally and a 750-metre-long tricolour display on the Chenab River, have been organized to mark the occasion.
Special Guests and Celebrations
Around 6,000 special guests from different walks of life, including students, farmers, and health workers, have been invited to the Red Fort. These guests have excelled in various fields with the help of government schemes. The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
National Pride and Unity
The celebrations are a symbol of national pride and unity, with people from all over the country coming together to honor India’s freedom. The event will also feature 3,000 winners of online competitions and 2,000 cadets from different schools forming the ‘My Bharat’ logo with tricolour kits.
