India Celebrates 78th Independence Day
New Delhi, India – The country is all set to celebrate the 78th Independence Day today. In the national capital, historical monuments, iconic landmarks, and government buildings were illuminated in the colours of the national flag to commemorate the freedom movement that led to India’s independence in 1947.
Monuments Lit Up in Tricolour
The India Gate, the North Block, Samvidhaan Sadan (Old Parliament House), Safdarjung Tomb, and the Vikas Minar were lit up in the tricolour on the eve of Independence Day. Security has also been enhanced in the national capital as vehicles are being checked in preparation for the celebrations.
Mumbai Joins the Celebrations
In Mumbai, several buildings and landmarks were also illuminated in tricolour. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal, Mantralaya Building, SBI Building, Shipping Corporation, and the Bandra-Worli sea link were all lit up in the national flag’s colours.
Prime Minister’s Speech
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 11th consecutive speech to the nation from the Red Fort on Thursday morning.
