INDIA Bloc MPs to Enter Lok Sabha Together for First Session of 18th Lok Sabha

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is set to begin with a display of unity from the INDIA bloc MPs, who will enter the Lok Sabha together. The session will start on Monday and will include the oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected Members of Parliament, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to sources, opposition leaders will gather where the statue of Mahatma Gandhi was previously placed and are likely to carry a copy of the Constitution with them. Congress MPs will also meet at the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) office in Parliament House this morning.

A ‘Swagatam’ cutout has been placed at the Parliament Makar Dwar to welcome the newly elected MPs. The session is expected to be stormy, with the opposition likely to challenge the BJP-led NDA government on various issues, including the election of the Speaker and allegations of paper leaks in NEET-UG and UGC-NET.

President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath to Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Mahtab will then call upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take his oath as a member of the House. The Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected on June 26, and President Murmu will address the joint sitting of both houses of Parliament on June 27.

This session marks the first of the 18th Lok Sabha following the general elections, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats, and the INDIA bloc won 234 seats, with the Congress holding 99 of them. The session will run from June 24 to July 3, and the 264th Session of the Rajya Sabha will commence on June 27 and conclude on July 3.

Additionally, the newly elected Congress MPs will meet at 10 am at the CPP office in Parliament today. The Samajwadi Party Parliamentary meeting, chaired by the party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav, will also be held today in the national capital.

The last session of the 17th Lok Sabha (Budget session) was held between January 31 and February 10 this year.
