INDIA Bloc Leaders Protest in Parliament, Hardeep Singh Puri Responds

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri criticized the protest staged by the opposition coalition, INDIA bloc, inside the Parliament premises. The protest involved leaders holding copies of the Constitution and coincided with the eve of the 49th anniversary of the Emergency declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

In a post on X, Puri called it ‘supreme irony’ and highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for upholding the Constitution. He stated, ‘Modi 3.0 is a good time to remind all Indians to recall which government & leader have always upheld the constitution, and will continue to defend it against all attempts at undermining it.’

INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and DMK MP K Kanimozhi, participated in the protest. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized the ruling party for ignoring key subjects and neglecting the Dalit community.

Trinamool Congress leaders Sudip Bandhopadhyay, Kalyan Banerjee, and Sougata Roy also protested, claiming that the Modi government violated the Constitution by deviating from the traditional practice of appointing the seniormost member as the pro-tem speaker.
