Mansukh Mandaviya Confirms

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken the first step towards hosting the 2036 Olympics by starting discussions with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission (FHC). This was confirmed by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

The process of selecting a host for the Summer Games is managed by the IOC through a detailed selection process. The Future Host Commission (FHC) is responsible for this task. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) interested in hosting must begin a dialogue with the FHC, which evolves into a Continuous Dialogue and then a Targeted Dialogue with selected NOCs.

After these dialogues, the IOC Executive Board conducts an election where members vote to award the hosting rights. The inclusion of any sport in the Olympics is decided by the IOC, which requires that the sport be governed by an International Federation that follows the Olympic Charter and is widely practiced globally. Decisions about the inclusion of sports are typically made seven years before the Games or at the session electing the host city.
