India’s captain, Shubman Gill, won the toss and chose to bat first. Abhishek Sharma scored a blistering century, making 100 runs off 47 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad added 77* runs from 47 balls, and Rinku Singh contributed a quickfire 48 runs from 22 balls. India posted a massive total of 234/2 in 20 overs.

For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarbani and Wellington Masakadza each took one wicket. Chasing 235 runs, Zimbabwe was all out for 134 runs in 18.4 overs. Wessly Madhevere was the top scorer with 43 runs, and Luke Jongwe added 33 runs.

India’s bowlers Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar were the stars, taking three wickets each. Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets, and Washington Sundar took one.

Reactions

Zimbabwe’s skipper, Sikandar Raza, praised India, saying, “The world champions will eventually play like world champions.” He acknowledged that dropping catches and inexperience hurt their performance.
