India Approves New Engines for Air Force Jets and Semiconductor Unit in Gujarat
The Indian government has given the green light for the purchase of 240 AL-31FP aero-engines for the Indian Air Force’s Su-30 MKI aircraft. These engines will be procured from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost of Rs 26,000 crore. The engines will be made in India with over 54% indigenous content and will be manufactured at HAL’s Koraput division. The delivery will start in one year and be completed over eight years.
Su-30 MKI is a crucial part of the Indian Air Force, and these new engines will help maintain the fleet’s operations and strengthen India’s defense capabilities.
In another significant development, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a proposal by Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. This unit will be established with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore and will have the capacity to produce 60 lakh chips per day. These chips will be used in various sectors, including industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones.
