The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai. The second Test will be held in Kanpur from September 27.

Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with star batter Virat Kohli also featuring. Kohli is aiming to reach 10,000 Test runs and add to his 29 Test centuries. Young talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are included, continuing their strong performances from the series win over England earlier this year.

KL Rahul returns to the Test setup after an injury, while Shreyas Iyer is not included. Rishabh Pant makes a comeback after his road accident in late 2022. Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, who impressed against England, are also in the squad.

The spin department includes Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, providing balance with their batting and bowling skills. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack. Yash Dayal receives his first call-up, and Akash Deep, who performed well in the Duleep Trophy, is also included.

Following the Bangladesh series, India will host New Zealand for three Tests starting October 16, and then compete in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia from November 22. India currently tops the ICC World Test Championship standings with six wins, two losses, and a draw.
