India and Vietnam Strengthen Maritime Cooperation in Hanoi Meeting
On August 16, 2024, India and Vietnam held their 4th Maritime Security Dialogue in Hanoi, Vietnam. The meeting focused on enhancing maritime cooperation and law enforcement, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

During the dialogue, both sides discussed ways to create a conducive environment for mutual growth and global well-being. They reviewed ongoing cooperation initiatives and explored new avenues for collaboration in international and regional forums.

- Marine Scientific Research
- Ocean Economy
- Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR)
- Navy and Coast Guard cooperation
- Maritime law enforcement
India and Vietnam agreed to hold the next round of dialogue in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date.
High-Level Meetings
Earlier this month, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited India and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They discussed the need for closer cooperation given current geopolitical realities and agreed to strengthen the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of giving the Global South a greater voice in international affairs. They appreciated the multi-dimensional institutional mechanisms between the two countries in various fields, including foreign policy, security, maritime domain, defence cooperation, trade, and technology.
Both leaders welcomed the signing of the Plan of Action for the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for 2024-2028.
