India and US Begin 20th Joint Military Exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2024’ in Rajasthan
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], September 9: India and the United States have started their 20th joint military exercise called ‘Yudh Abhyas 2024’ at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. This exercise will continue until September 22.
The 14-day event involves around 600 troops from the RAJPUT Regiment of the Indian Army and personnel from other arms and services. The US is represented by troops from the 1-24 Battalion of the Alaska-based 11th Airborne Division.
The main goal of the exercise is to improve the joint military capabilities of both countries to handle counterterrorism operations in a subconventional scenario, as outlined in Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
During the exercise, both sides will practice tactical drills, including joint responses to terrorist actions, joint planning, and combined field training exercises that mimic real-world counter-terrorism missions.
According to the Ministry of Defence, this year’s exercise marks a significant increase in scope and complexity, with enhanced troop strength and equipment. The exercise has been held annually since 2004, alternating between India and the USA.
Exercise Yudh Abhyas will allow both armies to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting joint operations. It will also help develop interoperability, camaraderie, and enhance defense cooperation, further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations.
