India and UAE Strengthen Defence Ties at 12th JDCC Meeting in Abu Dhabi

The 12th edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting between India and the UAE was held in Abu Dhabi on July 9. The meeting aimed to enhance defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

Key Discussions

During the meeting, both sides discussed various opportunities for collaboration, including:

  • Training and joint military exercises
  • Defence industrial cooperation
  • Subject matter expert exchange
  • Research and Development (R&D)

They also deliberated on regional security issues, such as maritime security, and emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration to tackle security challenges.

Important Meetings

The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad and included senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces, and the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi. The UAE side was co-chaired by Brig. General Staff Jamal Ebrahim Mohamed Almazrooqi.

During the visit, Amitabh Prasad met with Ali Abdulla Al Ahmed, Assistant Under Secretary, Ministry of Defence, UAE, and held discussions on bilateral defence cooperation. He also had a productive meeting with the CEO of the Tawazun Economic Council. Additionally, staff talks between the Navy and Army of both countries were conducted on the sidelines of the JDCC.

Historical Context

The India-UAE JDCC was established in 2006, and since then, 11 rounds have been held. The 12th meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
