India and Nepal Team Up for 12 New Community Projects
On Friday, India signed 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal. The signing ceremony took place between the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of Nepal, and various project-implementing agencies of the Nepali government.
The 12 projects, funded by the Government of India, span sectors like education, health, agriculture, drinking water, and culture, with a total estimated cost of NRs 474 million. These projects include:
- Construction of school buildings in Okhaldhunga, Bhojpur, Dailekh, Saptari, Morang, Chitwan, and Sunsari.
- Construction of a multipurpose foundation building in Arun Rural Municipality, Bhojpur.
- Water supply project in Sotang Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu.
- Agriculture Promotion Centre in Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality, Bajura.
- Health Post-Birthing Centre in Khaniyabas Rural Municipality, Dhading.
- Operation Theatre building for Rapti Eye Hospital in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang.
These projects aim to improve education, healthcare, drinking water, agricultural storage, and cultural facilities for local communities across various districts. Since 2003, India has undertaken over 563 HICDPs in Nepal, completing 490 of them. These projects cover areas such as education, health, roads, bridges, river training, drinking water, electrification, irrigation, culture, social welfare, and public utilities across all seven provinces of Nepal.
The implementation of these projects highlights the strong cooperation between India and Nepal, reflecting India’s continued support in enhancing Nepal’s infrastructure and uplifting its people.
