India and Japan to Boost Business Ties, Says Minister S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the strategic convergence of interests between India and Japan, emphasizing the potential for increased business collaboration. Speaking at the Jasjit Singh Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, he noted that India aims to attract 5 trillion yen (USD 42 billion) in investments from Japan by 2027.

Jaishankar shared insights from his recent trip to Japan, where he met with top leaders, including his Japanese counterpart, Yoko Kamikawa. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, including the high-speed rail project and the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme.

He also pointed out the need for more Indian professionals and students in Japan, noting that India has the lowest number of people in Japan among South Asians. Jaishankar stressed the importance of addressing these gaps to enhance the relationship between the two nations.

Jaishankar and Kamikawa also exchanged views on cooperation regarding Security Council reform, with a view to the Future Summit in September 2024.
