India and Egypt Strengthen Ties: Jaishankar Highlights Growing Partnership

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended an event in New Delhi celebrating Egypt’s National Day. He emphasized India’s commitment to enhancing its strategic partnership with Egypt, describing the country as an important and valued partner.

Growing Economic Cooperation

Jaishankar noted that the relationship between India and Egypt has intensified, with over 50 Indian companies investing in various sectors of the Egyptian economy, including pharmaceuticals, electronics, and green energy. He also mentioned that Egypt has opened up as a market for India’s agro-exports, notably wheat.

Increasing Defense Collaboration

Defense collaboration has grown, with regular exercises between the Air Forces and Special Forces of both countries. Indian Naval Ships frequently visit Egyptian ports, and new activities and collaborations are refreshing old traditions in defense industries.

Cultural and Diplomatic Ties

Jaishankar highlighted the cultural cooperation between the two ancient civilizations, noting the popularity of Yoga in Egypt and the strong interactions between universities. He also mentioned the close working relationship between Indian and Egyptian diplomats, with Egypt participating in the G20 during India’s presidency.

Support for Egypt’s BRICS Membership

Jaishankar expressed India’s strong support for Egypt’s membership in BRICS and valued the collaboration in the context of the India-Africa Forum Summit process. He looked forward to continuing the warm working relationship with Egypt’s new Foreign Minister.

Jaishankar concluded by reiterating the Indian Government’s commitment to advancing the strategic partnership with Egypt.
