India and China Reach Agreement on Border Patrolling Along LAC
Lieutenant General DP Pandey (Retd), who previously served as the Chinar Corps Commander in Kashmir, expressed his approval of the recent agreement between India and China regarding border patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He described the decision to resolve the long-standing issue through dialogue as a ‘pragmatic decision’.
On Monday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that India and China have reached an agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC. This agreement is expected to lead to disengagement and resolution of issues that arose following Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh in 2020.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed the agreement, stating that it would restore the situation to its state before May 2020. He emphasized that this development is a result of patient and persistent diplomacy, which began in September 2020.
The actions of the Chinese military in 2020 had significantly strained the bilateral relationship, but this agreement marks a positive step towards restoring peace and tranquility in the border areas.
