India and CARICOM Strengthen Ties in Virtual Meeting
The second meeting of the India-CARICOM Joint Commission took place virtually on Thursday. The Indian delegation was led by Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the CARICOM side was led by Barbara Dailey, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dominica. Representatives from the CARICOM Secretariat, member states, and Indian ministries participated.
The meeting reviewed the entire spectrum of relations between India and CARICOM, focusing on economic, commercial, agricultural, health, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Discussions aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing trade, and fostering partnerships in education, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the increased frequency of high-level interactions, including the India-CARICOM Foreign Ministerial Meeting held in New York on September 27. The first meeting of the Joint Commission was held in Georgetown, Guyana, on June 2, 2015.
