India and Brazil Team Up for Green Energy and Biofuels
India and Brazil have reaffirmed their collaboration in the energy sector, focusing on sustainable fuels like biofuels. During Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s visit to Brazil, both nations emphasized the importance of the Global Biofuels Alliance in promoting biofuels for environmental sustainability and socioeconomic growth.
In a joint statement, both countries highlighted their potential to collaborate on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) by leveraging their existing ethanol and biodiesel production infrastructure, growing aviation market, and vast agricultural resources.
Union Minister Hardeep Puri, accompanied by Indian Oil and Gas Companies, visited Brazil from September 19-21 at the invitation of Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira. They discussed enhancing trade and increasing the presence of Indian firms in Brazil’s energy sector.
Both sides recognized Brazil as a major destination for investments by Indian oil and gas companies and committed to innovative mechanisms to boost trade. They also highlighted the potential for collaboration on SAF, aiming to overcome challenges related to feedstock, production costs, and infrastructure to achieve net-zero emissions in aviation.
The partnership is expected to foster economic growth, create jobs in rural areas, and advance renewable energy technologies while reducing reliance on imports. By combining resources, expertise, and technology, India and Brazil aim to lead the global transition towards lower emission aviation, addressing environmental challenges and opening new avenues for economic and technological advancement in the biofuels sector.
