India and Belarus Hold First Consular Dialogue in Minsk

On June 28, India and Belarus held their first-ever Consular Dialogue in Minsk. The discussions covered various consular issues, including the welfare of Indian students in Belarus and enhancing tourism between the two countries.

Key Participants

The Indian delegation was led by Aman Puri, Joint Secretary of the Consular, Passport, and Visa Division. The Belarusian delegation was led by Andrei Kozhan, Head of the General Directorate for Consular Affairs at Belarus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discussion Highlights

Both sides agreed to follow up on the discussions and review them at the next edition of the India-Belarus Consular Dialogue, which will be held in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date. The Indian delegation also met with senior officials from the Belarusian Ministry of Sports and Tourism and representatives of the Indian student community in Belarus.

Support for Indian Initiatives

Earlier in May, Belarus Ambassador to India, Mikhail Kasko, expressed support for India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Smart Cities’ initiatives. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration in modern pharmaceuticals and the potential for further cooperation in various sectors.

Growing Bilateral Relations

The Belarusian envoy emphasized the constructive political dialogue and growing trade turnover between the two countries. He noted the increasing popularity of India among Belarusian tourists and the rising number of Indians visiting Belarusian attractions.
