India and Bangladesh Colleges Team Up for Military Education

The Indian Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Military Education in Strategic and Operational Studies. This MoU was signed during the official state visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on June 22.

Both colleges train officers from all military branches, preparing them for higher staff and command roles. They share similar training methods and face common challenges, making this collaboration beneficial. The MoU aims to enhance professional skills, provide insights into strategic affairs, share best practices, and improve the academic capabilities of student officers and faculty members.

The agreement will facilitate joint training programs, seminars, faculty exchanges, and reciprocal instructor visits. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on June 21 for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was the first bilateral state visit since PM Modi began his third term in office.

Both nations have also committed to a free, open, inclusive, secure, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. They pledged to co-lead the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management pillar of the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and work together on global platforms to promote their common interests, especially those of the Global South.
