India and Australia Team Up for AustraHind 2024 Military Exercise in Pune
The third edition of the India-Australia joint military exercise, known as AustraHind, is taking place at the Foreign Training Node in Aundh, Pune, Maharashtra. This event runs from November 8 to 21 and aims to boost cooperation and interoperability between the two nations’ armed forces.
Training Activities
The first phase of AustraHind 2024 has involved troops from both countries in various training activities, such as physical fitness, martial arts, joint tactical planning, and special arms skills. Participants have also practiced combat scenarios, including raiding hostile targets and providing combat first aid to injured soldiers. These exercises are designed to improve coordination and mutual understanding between the Indian and Australian forces.
Cultural Exchange
As part of the exercise, both contingents visited the historic Sinhagad Fort near Pune, offering a cultural and historical experience. The Australian contingent also toured the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla, Pune, on November 12, where they learned about the academy’s training facilities and interacted with instructors.
Upcoming Phases
Phase II of the exercise will focus on joint combat drills and tactical exercises to further enhance operational readiness. The exercise will conclude with a 48-hour validation exercise from November 19-20, testing the skills and coordination developed during the training.
AustraHind 2024 highlights the strong defense ties between India and Australia, as both countries work together to strengthen regional security and foster closer military collaboration.
