Independent Candidate Naresh Meena Arrested for Allegedly Slapping Magistrate in Rajasthan

Independent Candidate Naresh Meena Arrested in Rajasthan

Naresh Meena, an independent candidate from the Deoli-Uniara assembly constituency in Rajasthan, has been placed in 14-day judicial custody. This follows an incident where he allegedly slapped Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Chaudhary at a polling booth in Samravata village.

Legal Proceedings and Criticism

Advocate Lakhan Singh Meena, representing Naresh Meena, criticized the police for not presenting him physically in court, opting instead for a virtual hearing due to law and order concerns. The lawyer argued that the law requires an arrested individual to be presented in court within 24 hours, even if via video call. A plea was filed for daily medical tests and family visits for Naresh Meena.

Protests and Clashes

Supporters of Naresh Meena protested his arrest, leading to clashes in Tonk district. During these clashes, several vehicles, including police vehicles, were vandalized and set on fire. Naresh Meena claimed he had been harassed since October 25, with his campaign posters torn down and officials allegedly preventing votes for him.

By-Elections in Rajasthan

By-elections were held in Rajasthan for seven seats, including Deoli-Uniara, with results expected on November 20. These elections were prompted by the deaths of two MLAs and the election of five others to the Lok Sabha.
