Imran Khan’s Wife Bushra Bibi Challenges Arrest in Lahore High Court
Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has taken legal action against her arrest in a third Toshakhana case. She filed a petition in the Lahore High Court through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa, claiming that her arrest was politically motivated and involved mistreatment by female officials during her detention in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
The petition states that both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan had previously been granted bail in the Toshakhana case but were re-arrested with malicious intent. Bushra Bibi has requested the court to declare her arrest illegal and to take action against the jail superintendent and the female officials involved in her alleged assault.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has also filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking details of the cases filed against him. Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on multiple charges, including the Toshakhana case, cypher case, and unlawful marriage case. His wife has also been imprisoned for months.
On July 29, an accountability court in Rawalpindi extended the physical remand of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by 10 days in the Toshakhana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the couple before the court and submitted a progress report on the newly filed case. The hearing saw opposition from the defence lawyer Salman Safdar and an altercation between Imran Khan and NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi.
Imran Khan argued that his wife had no links to the Toshakhana and questioned why she was being punished. The court has adjourned the proceedings until August 8, directing the NAB team to present Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at the next hearing.
