Imran Khan’s PTI Faces NOC Cancellation for Tarnol Gathering

The Islamabad administration has revoked the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a public gathering by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Tarnol on August 22. Tarnol is a small town located about 3 miles north-west of Islamabad.

The decision was made during an Intelligence Committee meeting presided over by the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad. The district cited demands for protests by religious organizations as a reason for the cancellation.

Despite the cancellation, PTI Islamabad President Amir Mughal stated that the meeting will proceed as scheduled. He emphasized the party’s constitutional and legal right to engage in peaceful political activities and invited the public to join the meeting on August 22 at 4 p.m.

Previously, on July 24, the Islamabad High Court declared the Chief Commissioner’s order to revoke the NOC null and void. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq instructed the Islamabad administration to reevaluate PTI’s request in compliance with the law. The court ruled that it was illegal to revoke the NOC without prior notice to PTI.

PTI has filed a petition against the Chief Commissioner’s order and a contempt of court plea regarding the NOC suspension for their public gathering near Tarnol Chowk in Islamabad.
